Transition - the Buckingham Project

These materials have been developed to provide a framework for primary and secondary colleagues to start working together on progress from Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 3 in language learning.  The materials are for French but adaptable for another language or for other subject matter but working on the same principles.  With thanks to:  Kerrianne Harvey (Bourton Meadow),  Aimee Westnedge (Buckingham Primary), Sam Ferreira-Thornton (The Buckingham School), Andrea Savage (The Royal Latin School).

Languages Work - resources to help around options time.

Languages Work

An extensive website of resources is available from CiLT to assist with presenting the case for languages beyond 14. A CD ROM with video clips and a range of posters can also be ordered from the site. These can be ordered via the site by clicking on the image.

Following a series of assemblies in Bucks we have also developed a PowerPoint presentation with slides to support these materials. You can download this to help support your own work with Year 9.

Do you know what's happening in Key Stage 2?

caterpillar text prunes

Most of our primary schools are now using the Bucks Scheme of Work in French with resources for IWB written by the county support team.  The new scheme covers Years 3 to 6 inclusive and meets the requirement for all primary schools to deliver the national languages entitlement in Key Stage 2.  We feel this scheme (based upon the Key Stage 2 Framework as well as the developed practice of our ASTs in county) will ensure that we have a consistent approach which will help secondary teachers to build on progress.  To view and download the Bucks Scheme of Work go to the primary languages page of this website: http://www.bucksgfl.org.uk/course/view.php?id=48

Podcast symbolPodcasting and more

If you'd like to record audio which your students can download automagically onto their iPods or other audio devices, follow the links below!

There are two main approaches to this, you can do it in "one take" using the Odeo Studio free online resource, or you can download and install the free Audacity software to allow you to edit the audio, before uploading it into Odeo to make into a podcast.

To use Odeo you need to create a free Odeo account - and then you can upload existing audio, record new audio, or even incorporate MP3 files stored somewhere else on the internet into a podcast which your students can subscribe to.

If you want some inspiration, you might like to look at some of the work being done in Scotland using podcasting for MFL teaching at both primary and secondary.
